How to get there ...

Location:

Welcome to the City of Blue Mountains

The Blue Mountains World Heritage Area,  is encompassed by the Blue Mountains National Park and traversed by the City Of Blue Mountains making the City the only city fully enclosed in a World Heritage Area. Its borders range from the edge of the coastal plains of Greater Sydney, through to the start of the New South Wales, central tablelands.

The twin villages of Leura and Katoomba (5 minutes apart by rail or car) are located in the heart of the Blue Mountains at around 1100 metres (3,500 ft) and only a 2 hour train or car journey from the centre of Sydney.

Rail:

From the Airport - take the train to Sydney's Central Station.

From Central Station - Country Platform, take the Katoomba, Mt Victoria or Lithgow service (these are electric trains - but about once a month you can catch an historic steam train through to Mt Victoria).

Steam trains chuff through the blue mountains stations regularly, re-enacting the magic era of steam

These 'limited stop rail services' race through Western Sydney, stopping only at a few key stations, then cross the Nepean River to start a climb to over 1100 metres (3500 feet) through spectacular gorges, tunnels and valley views.

The trip is inter-dispersed with old world railway stations and glimpses of unique mountain villages reminiscent of yesteryear ... magical ... and a great way to introduce yourself to the diversity of activities and sights a trip to the Blue Mountains offers ....

Leura rail station - only 50 metres from leura gateway

Of course you then disembark at Leura and walk less than 50 metres to Leura Gateway having arranged a car and your accommodation....so easy...

Take the M4 Motorway to the Blue Mountains

Road:

Alternatively you might like to drive up, via the M4 out of Sydney, entering the 'City of the Blue Mountains' on the Great Western Highway, which meanders across about 100 kms of wilderness parkland through the numerous old world villages, literally starting from the edge of Greater Sydney (Penrith - Nepean River) through to Mt Victoria, which provides spectacular views to the mid-West of New South Wales, and road access to Lithgow, Oberon, Jenolan Caves, Bathurst and beyond.
